It must be important because one of the last commands of Jesus to His followers was to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to everyone.” (Mark 16:15)
The word “gospel” means “good news” and the good news to be preached is that although we are sinners (Romans 3:23) and therefore separated from God (Isaiah 59:2), He made a way for us to be reconciled to Him. He did this by sending His perfect, sinless Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for our sin; to take our punishment (1Peter 2:24). Because Jesus has already paid the price, God offers us forgiveness of sin and eternal life if we accept that sacrifice as the only sufficient payment for our sin. This salvation is a gift to be received, not something we can earn (Ephesians 2:8-9)
“For God so loved the world, He gave his only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Have you received this gift? “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 6:23)
